[White Paper] Mobile TB Screening Initiative in Indonesia: Accelerating Access to Care

[White Paper] Mobile TB Screening Initiative in Indonesia: Accelerating Access to Care

Transforming Tuberculosis Screening with Teleradiology and AI

Executive Summary

According to the 2020 WHO Global TB Report, Indonesia has the second highest number of Tuberculosis cases globally. Underreporting, limited diagnostic access, and a severe radiologist shortage continue to hinder progress, leading to long delays, around 65 days to diagnosis and 65 days to treatment.
To address these structural barriers, this initiative deployed mobile X-ray buses supported by secure digital platforms and AI-driven analysis, delivering fast and accessible TB screening directly to communities.

The end-to-end workflow included:

✓    Simple Participant Registration (via social media, posters, or on-site)
✓    Mobile Chest X-ray Screening
✓    Secure, Cloud-Based Imaging Workflow with Centralized Access
✓    AI-assisted Preliminary Analysis
✓    Clinician Verification of AI Findings
✓    Same-Day Results via WhatsApp and QR-Linked Printouts

Across two five-day screening phases in two hospitals, the project screened 1,000 participants, identified 95 individuals requiring further pathology testing, and confirmed 16 positive TB cases. Report delivery time reached as low as 18 minutes, a stark contrast to the delayed diagnostic timelines that continue to challenge TB care in Indonesia.
